Quick answers for setup, GPS accuracy, background rides, performance tests, and conditions.

Location permission

Choose Allow While Using App or Always when prompted. Precise Location must be on for accurate speed and nearby place information.

No lake shown

WaveSpeed only displays a lake when your GPS position is at or immediately near that body of water. Your city can still appear when you are on land.

Background rides

Start a ride before locking your phone. Keep Location Services enabled; iPhone may show the location indicator and Android displays an active-ride notification while WaveSpeed records in the background.

Weather unavailable

Weather and elevation require an internet connection. Speed and performance measurements continue to use GPS when network data is unavailable.

Speed looks delayed

Move into open sky, away from buildings and covered docks. Wait for the accuracy indicator to settle before beginning a performance run.

Change units

Open Settings in WaveSpeed and choose Imperial or Metric. Speed, distance, elevation, pressure, and performance targets update together.

Safety first

Use performance testing only on open water with a clear course. Set up your run before moving and never operate app controls while underway.
